Late Summer
rss feed

I'm a little late posting this final Montague Street Banner. Summer is nearly over already. I hope to have some new images up after the weather forces me back inside...

New Year

Trying so many different directions lately has inspired me to return to some techniques from the past. I'm interested in incorporating some of the textures from my woodblock printmaking days into new projects. The winter explosion of persimmon trees always gave me the impression of a tree throwing a party. More along these lines to follow soon. Happy New Year!

Winter

This is a slightly simplified version of the main image from the next round of Montague Street Banners. The set of ten images should be going up in the week around Thanksgiving, just in time for Black Friday.

Earth

I did some illustrations for Jon Stewart's Earth (The Book). It is a pretty image packed publication, but you can find my dodo and two more rightfully extinct animals in Chapter Two. Four more rather contextual ones are scattered throughout the rest of the book, so spend some time with it and see if you can find them all.

Autumn approaches...

Autumn is just around the corner. Geese and wool stockings and leaves, oh my! This series of ten banners will be hung on Montague Street in Brooklyn Heights come September. As an LA native, anything having to do with seasons just makes me happy. Three more sets to follow this year.

Planting Pencils.

It has been a hectic couple of months, full of many moves and trips south and west, but I am finally settled at my new studio space in the Greenpoint Pencil Factory. I've been admiring the porcelain pencil facade of this building and the work of the illustrators who reside here ever since moving to Brooklyn in 2006. It is all certainly very inspiring and I only hope I can do the building justice.

I am also happy that two of my very talented SVA classmates, Anne Emond and You Byun will be working in the studio downstairs. Onward all!

All Done.

The thesis show came and went, with some incredibly impressive work to be seen from all. Graduation is Friday, and then I'm out into the big wide world again. This time I am very excited.
